Exodus 31:18 “And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an
end of communing with him upon mount Sanai, two tablets of testimony, tablets
of stone, written with the fingers of God.”
Moses is the great patriarch and hero of the Old Testament.
He was chosen by God to deliver the Israelites from bondage then to receive the
Ten Commandments from God. In the sculpture, Moses is a solid figure, like a
pillar of strength. The face of Moses is distinguished, resolved and full of
faith. This is a face in which the Bible states has a glow or sacred aura to
it. The sculpture is endearing and the artist captures the great reverence for
this important prophet. The figure has been abstracted with the tablets held by
Moses’ left hand and the windblown hair alluding to Moses standing upon a windy
mountain top. The sculpture is inspiring, stirring and exciting; worthy of the
person being depicted.
